BlockBeats News, October 20th, New York City mayoral independent candidate Andrew Cuomo announced on Sunday that if elected, his administration would establish a new "Chief Innovation Officer" position to lead the city's innovation efforts in the blockchain and cryptocurrency space.
Cuomo stated that this position would be a senior executive role aimed at ensuring the city's support for the development of emerging industries and fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors through the adoption of new technologies. "The next mayor must ensure that we are at the forefront of defining the technological fields of the next century – artificial intelligence, blockchain, and biotechnology."
The primary responsibilities of this position include attracting investment and job opportunities in high-growth industries and driving innovation in city public services to make them more efficient and technologically capable. The Chief Innovation Officer will be appointed through consultation with an "Innovation Committee" composed of leaders in the three major emerging technology fields of artificial intelligence, blockchain, and biotechnology, and will continue to collaborate with the Chief Innovation Officer post-appointment.
