Hkma: Hong Kong to test digital Hong Kong dollar from Q4

2022-09-29 16:50
BlockBeats - Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) will launch a series of pilot schemes with banks and technology companies to test the digital Hong Kong dollar (E-HKD) from the fourth quarter, Chief Executive Richard Yu Wai-man said on Sept 29. These trials are aimed at finding the best use of CBDC in Hong Kong. "The e-retail payment system in Hong Kong is already very diverse, very convenient and very cheap," Mr. Yu said in an interview. "If we want the public to adopt E-HKD, we need to have a proper use case that can show the advantages of CBDC either more convenient or cheaper."
