BlockBeats News, June 20th, according to Reuters, Apple is considering using artificial intelligence to accelerate the design of its custom device chips. Apple's Senior Vice President of Hardware Technologies, Johny Srouji, stated that a key lesson the company has learned is the need to use cutting-edge tools to design chips. "Electronic Design Automation (EDA) companies are crucial in supporting the complexity of our chip design. Generative AI technology has tremendous potential to complete more design work in a shorter time, significantly enhancing productivity." However, according to AppleInsider, Apple has been using AI to some extent in its designs for years, as the third-party EDA companies it has relied on have utilized AI and machine learning in chip design.
Meanwhile, software giant Microsoft is planning to lay off thousands of employees as part of streamlining its workforce to keep pace with competitors amid increased AI investment. Currently, Microsoft is integrating AI more into its products and services. This week, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy also stated that the introduction of generative AI and agentive AI in the coming years will reduce its workforce.
