BlockBeats News, July 25th. Despite recent optimism from EU diplomats about an impending trade agreement, Trump stated that the possibility of the US and EU reaching a deal to lower import tariffs is "only 50-50." Trump said, "I think the chances of reaching an agreement are 50-50, maybe less, but there is still a 50% chance. US and EU negotiators are working closely to reach an agreement." Earlier this month, Trump issued a letter stating that if the US and EU fail to reach an agreement by August 1st, the EU will face punitive measures of a 30% tariff on most goods, as well as industry-specific additional tariffs. Trump also mentioned today that in the coming days, he will unilaterally send out nearly 200 tariff letters to set a new round of tariffs for other countries, with some letters specifying tariff rates of 10% or 15%.
