The suspect behind a $5.8 billion cryptocurrency and credit card fraud scheme has been arrested in Bangkok.

BlockBeats News, October 3rd, a Portuguese man was arrested in Bangkok, Thailand, on suspicion of masterminding a $580 million (€500 million) cryptocurrency and credit card fraud involving Portugal, Europe, the Philippines, and Thailand. The suspect has been illegally staying in Thailand since 2023 and has been continuing his fraudulent activities in Bangkok.


The Thailand English newspaper Khaosod confirmed the man to be 39-year-old Pedro M. A Portuguese journalist on vacation in Bangkok first spotted him at a luxury shopping mall. The police used facial recognition and biometric data to confirm his identity and apprehend him. Khaosod did not confirm Pedro's last name, but his personal information and photos match those of the well-known Portuguese media figure Pedro Mourato.
