The Longest Government Shutdown in U.S. History May Be Broken

2025-10-20 14:48

BlockBeats News, October 20th. What was previously widely believed to last only two to three weeks, the U.S. government shutdown has now evolved into a major crisis in Washington, D.C., and is likely to continue into November.

“To end the shutdown, either the White House must engage in negotiations to reach an agreement, or the Democratic Party must compromise. But at the moment, neither of these signs are evident,” analysts from Beacon Policy Advisors stated in a report, “The current government shutdown is poised to become the longest federal government shutdown event in U.S. history.”

As of Monday, the partial government shutdown that began this month has lasted for 20 days; while the longest government shutdown in U.S. history was 35 days, occurring during Trump's first presidential term nearly seven years ago. Prediction market Kalshi showed last Friday that the current shutdown is likely to last about 41 days, whereas two weeks ago the market predicted the shutdown would only last 14 days. (Jin10)
