Australian Former Rugby Star Arrested for Alleged Cryptocurrency Theft

BlockBeats News, November 5th, according to Decrypt, former Australian Rugby League star Trent Merrin was arrested for allegedly stealing $91,000 USD (approximately AU$140,000) worth of cryptocurrency. The police accused him of using fraudulent means to transfer funds from the victim's account. This arrest comes as Australian regulators strengthen cryptocurrency crime enforcement efforts. Merrin was granted bail and is scheduled to appear in Port Kembla Local Court on December 3rd.


The former forward for the St. George Illawarra Dragons, Penrith Panthers, and Leeds Rhinos retired from the Australian Rugby League in 2021 after a 15-year career.
