Mexican senators have introduced legislation aimed at making Bitcoin legal tender in the country
On July 2, Mexican Senator Indira Kempis introduced a bill aimed at making Bitcoin legal tender in the country. The bill is based on difficulties faced by Mexican citizens trying to obtain financial products and education. According to the proposal, 56 percent of Mexico's population still lacks access to bank accounts, and more than 67 million people still lack access to the most basic financial instruments. Similarly, 68 percent of citizens lack access to financial education, leaving most Mexicans unable to make informed decisions about savings, mortgages or how to handle credit. Mexico's central bank had previously opposed the introduction of bitcoin into the country's financial system.
