Until today, the narrative of Rollup has gradually become popular. On the one hand, it inherits the security, users, and ecology of the main network, while also reducing transaction fees and effectively improving performance, greatly enhancing the user experience. On the other hand, the business model of Layer2 (transaction fee commission) is also becoming increasingly clear.
As the main direction of Layer2 expansion, the Rollup track has been developing rapidly recently: Linea announced the opening of Alpha access to the mainnet, Base officially launched the mainnet, and the number of users participating in zkSync bridge transactions exceeded 2 million...
In order to better understand the overall development of the Layer2 track, Opside has officially compiled statistics on some of the more mainstream Layer2 solutions currently available on the market (Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, zkSync, Linea, Base, etc.), and analyzed them from various dimensions. The following are the specific data performances of major Rollups in August:
Regarding transaction activity, zkSync stands out with an astonishing daily average transaction volume of 929,445, indicating significant success in attracting users and transactions to its ecosystem. In contrast, Metis has relatively weak performance with a daily average transaction volume of only 116,017, possibly due to its high transaction fees.
From the perspective of user fees, Metis users seem to need to pay relatively high Gas fees, with an average daily GasFee of 17.001 Gwei. In stark contrast, Optimism's user fees are very low, with an average daily GasFee of only 0.131 Gwei. This may make Optimism more attractive, especially for users who want to reduce transaction costs. However, Optimism has not yet found a suitable balance point, and the low GasFee has caused losses.
Metis has performed exceptionally well in terms of revenue, with an average daily income of 62.591 Ether, which is the highest among all solutions. However, Optimism leads in terms of expenses, with a total monthly expenditure of 1,272.512 Ether. This may require Optimism to further optimize its spending strategy to increase net income.
Metis also performed well in terms of net revenue, with an average daily net revenue of 61.617 Ether and a total monthly net revenue of 1,910.115 Ether. In contrast, Optimism had negative net revenue, with an average daily net revenue of -26.050 Ether and a total monthly net revenue of -807.558 Ether. Optimism needs to take measures to increase net revenue to maintain its sustainability, such as appropriately increasing GasFee.
