The last Builder House of 2023 was held in Singapore last week, featuring activities such as keynote speeches, group discussions, and seminars that focused on the present and future of Sui. Among them, zkLogin was the highlight of the event. As a new Sui primitive, zkLogin allows users to create accounts using Web2 authentication and is expected to drive widespread adoption of Web3.

Other than speeches and announcements, applicants and judges of the Liquidity Staking Hackathon met to discuss their projects and received feedback from Sui Foundation staff. In addition, the event attracted over 650 attendees who had ample time for socializing and gained a lot from the experience.

zkLogin Makes Web3 More Accessible

Mysten Labs co-founder and Chief Product Officer Adeniyi Abiodun introduced the huge opportunity that zkLogin brings to users and businesses. As a native feature of Sui, this new primitive will be a game-changer in guiding new users into Web3. By allowing people to use authentication from commonly used software such as Google, Twitch, and Microsoft, zkLogin eliminates the friction currently encountered in creating accounts in Web3. It eliminates the need to create new authentication and remember mnemonic phrases, and only requires entering the Web2 username and password to obtain a Sui wallet containing zkLogin. Zero-knowledge proofs protect authentication information off-chain while keeping on-chain activity and authentication information network private.

Adeniyi compared the active Web3 wallet count to the less than 100 million Web3 accounts, emphasizing the scale difference and the potential of native features like zkLogin for simple login in bringing in a new wave of users.

Looking into the Future of Web3

On the first day of the event, participants listened to several panel discussions focused on the future development of Web3, particularly in the areas of gaming and DeFi.

Ben Charbit from Life Beyond, Jin Lee from NHN, and Jameel Khalfan from Mysten Labs discussed the appeal of Web3 to gaming. The ownership of digital assets inspires loyalty and engagement among players, which sets it apart from games limited to Web2. This has also led to more traditional game studios integrating Web3 technology into their games. Given the decline in the play-to-earn trend, it was unanimously agreed that there is a need for simpler onboarding methods, such as those provided by zkLogin, to attract a wider audience to gaming.

Mysten Labs' Alonso de Gotari, GSR's Ray Pan, and Duoro Labs' Mike Cahill discussed the development trends of the next wave of decentralized finance. The DeFi field is the cradle of technological and business innovation, but compared to traditional finance, it is still a niche product. Ray talked about the role of market making that builders need to consider in their projects. In addition, he mentioned that the development team should ensure that the integration process goes smoothly, including stable APIs and supported engineers. Mike expressed his hope to see more DEX become the leading market for perpetual derivatives and see products move from the decentralized world to the chain.

Sui Community Voice

The various applications and projects of the Sui community also made an appearance at this Builder House. Whether in the developer area, attending technical seminars hosted by the Sui Foundation's developer relations team, or chatting during social events, everyone enjoyed the opportunity to connect and learn from each other.

Among them, some community projects have taken the main stage and shared more about their work.

· Cynthia Qu interviewed Josh Tobkin from SupraOracles, who are pioneers in cross-chain communication and oracle solutions. Josh expressed his desire to integrate with most DeFi projects on Sui, not only to provide reliable and secure oracle services for applications, but also to help more communities understand Sui.

· Streamflow is a product that helps organizations manage team finances on the chain, and they announced the launch of the Sui version on the main stage of Builder House. They provide automated token release schedules, token locking, staking, and airdrops, all aimed at helping projects succeed throughout their entire token lifecycle.

Web3 and Sui's Vision

During a founder AMA, Adeniyi and Greg Siourounis, the Executive Director of the Sui Foundation, shared their sincere views on blockchain and the future of Sui. They emphasized that the key to future success is to meet consumer demands by having differentiated products and competing with Web2. By solving real problems and eliminating unnecessary friction in user experience, adoption can be accelerated and the current state can be overcome. As Adeniyi said, product teams like Mysten Labs should put empathy back at the center of the development process.
