Arkham: 45,000 BTC Unearthed, German Government Could Not Seize, Still Potentially Controlled by Movie2K Operator

2025-09-06 10:48

BlockBeats News, September 6th, Arkham announced on social media that the organization has identified $5 billion worth of Bitcoin that the German government failed to seize.

Previously, the German police confiscated 49,858 bitcoins from the operator of the video piracy website Movie2K in early 2024 and sold them at an average price of $57,900 in July 2024, generating a profit of $2.89 billion.

However, Arkham's investigation revealed another Bitcoin cluster related to Movie2K's early activities, with a total of approximately 45,000 bitcoins (worth $4.99 billion) that have not been moved since 2019. These bitcoins are held in over 100 Bitcoin wallets, likely still controlled by the Movie2K operator, and the scale is almost equivalent to the seized bitcoins.

The German government's statement did not mention this additional batch of bitcoins, nor did it include them in the initial "emergency sale" plan.
