Joseph Lubin is one of the co-founders of Ethereum and the founder of Ethereum software company ConsenSys.
Lubin Born and raised in Toronto, he graduated from Princeton University with degrees in electrical engineering and computer science. He initially worked in robotics-related labs developing autonomous music creation tools and mobile robots. Later, as a software engineer and consultant, Lubin worked on a number of financial projects and was involved in the creation and operation of hedge funds. He also served as director of the New York office of Blacksmith Software Consulting and as vice president of technology for Goldman Sachs Private Wealth Management.
Inspired by Satoshi Nakamoto’s Bitcoin white paper and the possibilities of distributed systems, Lubin became interested in the field of blockchain Strong interest. He delved into the early blockchain community and co-founded Ethereum in 2014 with fellow Torontonian Vitalik Buterin. He believes that "Bitcoin presents a broad vision, and Ethereum presents the crystallization of how to achieve that vision." Lubin also participated in the creation of the Ethereum Foundation. Lubin then turned to building an ecosystem around Ethereum. He subsequently founded ConsenSys in 2014.
ConsenSys, founded by Lubin in 2014, is a decentralized software company. It mainly develops software for the Ethereum blockchain. As one of the largest and most fundamental entities in blockchain technology, ConsenSys is leveraging the power of Ethereum to build blockchain-related development tools, decentralized applications and solutions for businesses and governments. It is the primary developer and promoter of decentralized applications in the Ethereum community.
Under Lubin’s leadership, ConsenSys has incubated more than 50 projects, including multiple key infrastructure elements of the Ethereum network such as Infura, MetaMask, Truffle, and others.
ConsenSys also incubates platforms and applications across multiple industries, such as trade finance platforms and supply chain tracking platforms. In addition, it also provides corporate and government consulting, investment, security auditing, token issuance and other services. You can find ConsenSys Ventures’ portfolio here.
As a strong advocate for decentralized technology, Lubin also helped ConsenSys occupy a core position in the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance (EEA), the global standards organization for commercial applications of Ethereum technology. EEA currently has more than 500 members, including global business leaders such as Accenture, CME Group, Deloitte, JPMorgan Chase, Microsoft and others. As a link between the traditional financial industry and the blockchain industry, ConsenSys has made many contributions to the widespread application of blockchain technology.
