Introduction

Today, there are many ways to hack and circumvent password authentication attacks. Therefore, two-factor authentication is key to keeping your account secure.

What is 2FA?

2FA or "two-factor authentication" refers to the simultaneous use of two factors or two "locks" to protect user security and take security to the next level. The factors described here fall into three different categories:

Things the user knows (such as passwords)
Devices the user has (such as a phone)
Biometrics (such as fingerprints)

In order to properly implement 2FA protection, personal accounts must have at least two-factor authentication turned on before access is granted. Binance supports multiple two-factor authentication (2FA) methods:

Security keys (e.g. YubiKey)
Binance Authenticator
Google Identity Authenticator
Mobile (SMS) Verification
Email

How to set up SMS and Google Authenticator on Binance

SMS Authentication

When registering an account, you need to provide your mobile phone number. The service will send you a text message every time you log in, providing a verification code that expires after a certain amount of time. This verification code must be entered to log in normally.

Set SMS authentication

1. Visit the personal account page and click to enable SMS authentication.

2. Enter the mobile phone number and click [Send SMS].

3. After receiving the SMS, enter the SMS verification code in the box and click "Submit".

Google Authentication

After setting up Google Authentication, you will be assigned a backup key ( key). The app then uses the key as a seed to periodically generate one-time passwords (OTPs). This one-time password is required when logging in.

High encryption level	If the device is lost, the account cannot be accessed (unless you have a backup key)
No need to turn on cellular network or Wifi	Need to install other applications

Set up Google authentication

1. First, please click on the personal account page "Enable" in .

2. Next, download the Google Authentication App. The link is attached to this page. After installing the app, proceed to the next step.

3. Scan the QR code. Open the Google Authenticator App on your mobile device and click "Scan Barcode". If you can't use your mobile device's camera, click "Enter the key provided."

After scanning the QR code using the Google Authenticator App, you can continue to the next step.

4. Back up the key. Please record this backup key on a piece of paper and keep it in a safe place. This code allows you to reset Google Authenticator if your mobile device is lost.

5. Enable Google authentication. Confirm your password and Google Authenticator code, then click [Enable Google Authenticator].
